Wear a Guernsey Day funds to aid Les Bourgs

Islanders and their furry friends donned their guernseys yesterday, all to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

The sixth Wear a Guernsey Day took place yesterday and there were photo competitions for categories such as salty sea dog, generations, largest group, best photo and best accessory as well as a competition for the best illustration or painting including a guernsey.

As well as the competitions and bean jar stalls, Les Bourgs Hospice, Le Tricoteur and Guernsey Woollens – who jointly organised the event – were present.

‘Wear a Guernsey Day is about trying to raise as much money as we can,’ said Paul Eldridge from Guernsey Woollens.

‘Cancer rates are going up and the cost of care is going up so supporting Les Bourgs is a no-brainer.’

This is the second year that Les Bourgs Hospice has been the recipient of funds raised from Wear a Guernsey Day.

‘We’re always incredibly grateful for support whether it is fundraising or awareness, and this is another great way for people to get involved,’ said Liz Stonebridge, fundraising administrator at the hospice.

‘It’s a lovely link-up. Last year we had a tour of Guernsey Woollens’ factory and this year we saw Le Tricoteur and they have donated some of their seconds guernseys for us to sell in our charity shop.’

The charity had its bereavement team at their stall in the Inner Market.

‘It raises awareness of our bereavement support service and we have already had conversations we wouldn’t normally have had,’ said Miss Stonebridge.
