Major Andrew Diaper-Clausen said that its celebration was always a lively, enjoyable event.

‘The Salvation Army in Guernsey is again celebrating Christmas Day by organising its annual lunch at La Picquerel,’ he said. ‘The activities are free to anyone who will be on their own on this Christmas Day.’

He added that the traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings would be at the heart of the day and hosts would ensure everyone had the best festive experience.

‘Applications are already flooding in so we are looking forward to a great day together,’ he said. ‘Our Christmas Day activities are a highlight of my year. It’s a time to share in laughter and goodwill, and it’s amazing to see people becoming one big family for the day.’

The day at the Salvation Army’s base at L’islet starts with a Christmas morning carol service at 10.30am, followed by coffee and tea at 11.30am.

Lunch is served soon after noon and is followed by seasonal entertainment.

After the King’s speech at 3pm, the day ends with some ‘gifts and goodies’.

If you, or someone you know, would like to spend Christmas at the event, they can pick up a form at the Nocq Road Community Cafe on the Bridge, or alternatively, email guernsey@salvationarmy.org.uk or phone 07781 124404. Transport is available if required.
