Work being carried out to fix Salerie Corner flooding

The car park at Salerie Corner may soon return to full capacity, even in wet weather, after work started yesterday to fix a section of the site which has become notorious for flooding.

In wet weather there will often be a couple of vacant spaces in the car park but only the brave would try them, as the collected rainwater would be ankle deep.

Traffic and Highway Services have suspended parking in approximately 135 spaces on the northern edge of the car park until Thursday afternoon, cutting the car park’s capacity by about a third while the works take place.

A spokesman for THS said that remedial works and water drainage channel clearance, being carried out by contractor Ronez, started at 7.30am on Monday. Dozens of drivers were frustrated when they drove in looking for a space yesterday morning.

‘Thank you for your patience while these works take place. If you are looking for a long-term parking during these works, there may be spaces available on the East Arm,’ said the spokesman. ‘Parking suspensions will be removed from spaces as the work progresses, providing the spaces have been able to be remarked.’
