Cressida has been part of Girlguiding for two years and is currently part of the St Stephen’s Brownie group, where she drew her winning design in one session.
‘I wanted to add everything in, as in Rudolph, Santa, the Christmas tree, a snowman and presents. I couldn’t forget it snowing, so I drew snow and snowflakes going down,’ she said.
‘I was excited and shocked to win.
‘I love celebrating Christmas. I love sitting around the tree in my lounge and opening the presents, and I also love sitting down at the table when it’s dinnertime and talking about Christmas things.’
Despite snow being a key feature of her design, she says she has never actually touched it before, but managed to make it come alive in her art.
She was very happy to have her first visit to Government House, where she met Lt-Governor Sir Richard Cripwell.
Sir Richard and Lady Cripwell selected Cressida’s card out from more than 70 entries. Sir Richard said the 100th anniversary of Girlguiding Guernsey’s Randalls Cup had inspired them to work with the Guides for the competition this year.
‘We try to do something different every year.
‘This year is a significant anniversary for the Girl Guides and Brownies in Guernsey.
‘My wife is the patron of Brownies and Guides in Guernsey, so we wanted to do something with them to mark this very special occasion,’ he said.
‘It was just such a happy card. There’s lots of Christmas in there with all the things that people associate with it – Santa, Rudolph, trees, snow and snowmen.
‘Lots of colour really filled the page and it popped out.
‘Cressida just did a really lovely card. We very quickly picked up on it, and we’re delighted with how it came out.’
