South Show committee moves to keep non-resident member

THE South Show committee has called an extraordinary general meeting to change the rules so that one of its members is not forced to step down.

Southern Agricultural and Horticultural Society secretary Kevin Smale said the problem was that the rules forbid anyone from outside the parishes involved in the South Show from being a member of the society.

‘We have a committee member who unfortunately has had to move from St Peter Port but that committee member wants to remain on the committee and we want them to remain,’ he said.

If the change is approved, committee members who move parish will be able to stay on the committee, although they will not be able to rejoin it if they later step down.

The change will also allow anyone to become a member of the society, regardless of where they live, although they will not be able to be on the committee.

The rule about only residents in the relevant parishes being able to enter the show competitions will remain.

Mr Smale said that there will also be discussion of proposed changes being made to rules that affect data protection.
