But they have admitted that officers have dealt with an incident at a school, which has not been named, and a separate issue involving a young person and a knife.
The police issued a statement yesterday afternoon in response to the social media commentary.
‘Firstly, it is important to say that enquiries have not found any evidence that a knife was actually brought into school,’ they said.
‘Police can confirm that an incident with a young person relating to this has been dealt with, but this was not on school premises or in school hours, no one was placed in danger, and it did not directly involve a bladed article.’
They said that a separate issue, involving a knife, was dealt with as part of the inquiry.
‘This has understandably caused alarm for parents, however we wanted to reassure the community that we have been working closely with the school and wider partner agencies to address it.
‘We take this kind of report incredibly seriously, as do Education, and so robust discussions have taken place with the young person and their family.’
