A memorial service in honour of victims of the Holocaust was held at the White Rock today, on Holocaust Memorial Day across the British Isles.

The service included the laying of dedicated wreaths in memory of the victims, including the Guernsey Eight, and was led by the Rev. Justin Taylor, minister at St Andrew’s Church of Scotland in the Grange.

‘Today, we honour the Jewish people who were murdered, including those whose suffering is part of Guernsey’s wartime story,’ he said.

‘In remembering them, we listen across generations, carrying memory into the present so that history is not repeated, and humanity is never diminished.’

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 is ‘Bridging Generations’ – a theme intended to encourage active engagement with the past, and remind people that the responsibility of remembrance does not end with its survivors.
