Amy Vermeulen’s appointment expands MSG’s paediatric audiology service and she joins Stephen Ruddock, who became part of the team in 2024.
Her focus will be on assessing and treating hearing loss, supporting children and their families and offering advice on protection prevention of further hearing deterioration.
Miss Vermeulen earned a BSc in healthcare science, with a focus on audiology, at the University of Southampton, before joining the complex adult and paediatric audiology team at Portsmouth NHS Trust. In Portsmouth she did additional training in vestibular audiology, which involves the diagnosis and treatment of balance disorders that can cause vertigo, dizziness and balance instability.
She said she was attracted to audiology by the range of knowledge and skill required.
‘I love that it’s a speciality with such a wide scope, both in the patients you see and the clinical skills you use.
‘The most fulfilling part is seeing the positive impact on patients’ lives.
‘Having already fallen in love with Guernsey, I’m excited to develop my interest in paediatric audiology here on the island.
‘Helping children with hearing problems is something that I find particularly rewarding.’
MSG chief executive Dr Farid Fouladinejad said Miss Vermeulen was a ‘fantastic addition’ to the team.
‘Her appointment strengthens our audiology service and ensures patients continue to receive high-quality, consistent care.
‘With Amy and Steve now working together alongside our excellent ENT consultants, we’re well placed to meet islanders’ need for accessible hearing care, and we’re confident patients and their families will value the continuity of service the team provides.’
Outside of work, Miss Vermeulen has a strong interest in art, music and astronomy and since moving to Guernsey she has enjoyed sketching and painting the island’s landscapes and going to live music events.
