The Tourism Management Board has worked alongside Visit Guernsey to launch the Island Ambassador Training Scheme. It will be rolled out to all those working in visitor-facing roles across the tourism sector, encouraging them to become advocates for the island, while enhancing their own local knowledge and level of customer service.
‘We want visitors to have the best experience possible from the moment they arrive,’ said Charlie Walker, co-chair of the TMB.
‘Our aim is to improve skills and island knowledge across the sector and promote an excellent visitor journey. Every touch point should be a positive one, encouraging return trips and recommending the islands to friends and family. Training new Guernsey ambassadors should benefit our whole industry.’
The programme is designed as an adaptable module to be delivered as part of a business’ existing training. Industry groups are also encouraged to deliver sessions, allowing independent traders to take part.
Visit Guernsey will run online or in-person training sessions, which are designed to allow networking.
Once completed, the newly trained individual can collect an ambassador badge from the Visitor Information Centre.
Businesses will also be able to use a digital version of the badge.
Visit Guernsey is proud that its net promoter score – whether visitors would recommend the island for a holiday to others – has risen significantly over the past year, which it said was a reflection of the quality experience already being delivered by the tourism sector.
