Andrea Pereira, 44, of Mount Durand, St Peter Port, admitted the drink-drive offence when she appeared in the Magistrate’s Court.

The court was told how a police officer on mobile patrol in an unmarked car had come across the defendant driving her Ford Fiesta at Forest Road, in the direction of the airport, at about 7.50am.

She was travelling at 45mph and the car was crossing in to the centre of the road. He followed the vehicle before stopping it at Rue du Manoir, Forest.

The defendant’s breath smelled of alcohol and she told him she was on her way to work.

She failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.

An evidential test at the Police Station identified 64 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of her breath, when the legal limit is 35.

She had no previous convictions.

Defending, Advocate Sam Maindonald said her client had had a small party at home the day before where she had consumed alcohol.

She had woken up late for work, which was why she was in a hurry to get there.

She thought she would have been OK to drive and was devastated to find herself in the position she was in now.

She wished to apologise to the court.

Judge Gary Perry said given the circumstances of this case, the fine would be £800 with a licence suspension of two years.
