The popular take-away on the corner of the Pitronnerie Industrial estate was bought by a small UK chain for almost £1m. last November, with the intention of opening for business at the end of January.
This was not achieved, but Merchants owner Antony Akathiotis said his team was pulling out all the stops to get frying by the bank holiday on 3 April.
‘It is going to be tight, but if we can find a way to be open for Easter weekend we will,’ he said.
‘We are raring to go, it’s been very frustrating but we have had some problems with crossing t’s and dotting i’s on a few things that have delayed us opening. Now we are just desperate to get on with it.’
The West Midlands chip shops are renowned for their social media content, with individual videos on TikTok clocking up more than 30 million views.
One change customers will see before Easter is new signage, which Mr Akathiotis said should be going up in the next fortnight.
