The cooperative launched its mobile service in Guernsey and Jersey in February, and its chief marketing officer, David McGrath, has said he was happy with the engagement seen so far.
‘We’re welcoming new members to the Coop Mobile family every day, which is incredibly encouraging to see.
‘While exact numbers are commercially sensitive at this stage, what we can say is that we’re firmly on track against our plans and really pleased with the level of interest and engagement we’re seeing so early on,’ he said.
‘Launching a new mobile network is never simple, but the response from customers and members has been overwhelmingly positive.
‘People really connect with the idea of a fairer, more flexible mobile service from a brand they already know and trust, and that’s exactly what Coop Mobile was designed to deliver.’
Coop Mobile is a pay-monthly service, with packages currently starting from £9.64 per month, which includes 5GB local Channel Islands data and unlimited calls and texts to Channel Islands, UK and the Republic of Ireland when used in the Channel Island. Flexible roaming boosters are available for the UK, Europe and USA.
There had been mobile number portability issues for customers transferring from JT until recently and Mr McGrath has said early signs of people transferring have been encouraging.
‘Mobile number portability has been available to Sure and Airtel customers since launch. JT number portability only went live recently, so it’s still early days, but the initial signs are encouraging.
‘We’re already seeing renewed interest from customers who had been waiting to switch once they could keep their number, and we expect that momentum to continue,’ he said.
Mr McGrath said Coop Mobile would continue to build on the proposition by introducing new products as well as member rewards and other benefits.
‘Coop Mobile has always been about giving people more choice, more flexibility and better value, especially for our members.
‘This is a long‑term strategic commitment, not a short‑term launch. As the service continues to grow, we’ll keep building on the proposition by introducing new products, added benefits and member rewards, always guided by what our members and customers tell us they want and need,’ he said.
