The previous Economic Development Committee requested the Guernsey Competition & Regulatory Authority to carry out a market study before last year’s general election.

‘We received a first-draft presentation from the GCRA in February,’ said Economic Development president Sasha Kazantseva-Miller.

‘We had some clarification questions, and I believe that just this week we have received an updated report. We need permission for that report to be published, from the entity which was researched, and we hope to share those findings in due course.’

The study was commissioned because of concerns that the costs of aggregate and concrete products locally were much higher than in the UK and France.

But at the time the Guernsey Construction Forum said it was puzzled by the claim and disputed accusations that concrete products were double the price of the UK. The construction sector makes up about 4.5% of the island’s economic activity directly and supports a larger percentage indirectly.
