Accessible cycling charity launches new track sessions

The track at Victoria Avenue saw excited cyclists of all abilities enjoying the sunshine and wide-open spaces at Wheels for You’s new venue – kick-starting what promises to be a busy outdoors season for the charity.

Established by the Health Improvement Commission, the accessible cycling charity has had a successful indoor season at Beau Sejour, and is now able to offer sessions outdoors with a second venue, adding to sessions already held at Les Beaucamps High School. Some 20 riders were booked for yesterday's launch event.

‘Everyone’s very excited to be back outside and the weather’s been particularly kind to us,’ said Caroline Barby, co-founder of Wheels for You.

‘The relaunch is a special opportunity for everyone to come back together, feel part of the community and the new season. It’s been a really good turnout – the buzz of being back out in the open, with a new venue and double the amount of sessions has been big.

The charity will now be alternating sessions, with Tuesday afternoons at Victoria Avenue and Sunday mornings at Les Beaucamps.

‘There’s lots of space at the go-kart track, which people have been loving. It’s exciting to give people the opportunity to cycle in a different environment.

‘Bookings are looking good. The need’s definitely out there, we’re just responding to it.’

Cycle confidence sessions for adults wanting to learn to develop their riding ability will also run alongside the accessible sessions from late May.
