Tower to Tower charity walk and run returns next week

Walkers, runners and even dogs are being invited to take on a 13km stretch of the north-west coast next month, as the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Tower to Tower Walk and Run returns.

The event takes place on Sunday 6 September, with runners setting off from Vazon Bay car park at 8.45am, followed immediately by the walkers.

The route follows the coastline to L’Ancresse, where all finishers will receive a medal, with refreshments provided at Tower No. 5 at the north end of L’Ancresse.

Water stations will be set up along the course and marshals positioned throughout to offer support.

Money raised will support the association’s work providing practical advice, emotional support and community-based sitter services for carers of people living with dementia.

The charity also runs a range of social and wellbeing activities, including sailing, golf, boccia, walking football, kurling and cycling, as well as regular sessions at its centre.

This year’s event is sponsored by Alter Domus, which has chosen the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association as its charity of the year. Senior officer Heather Jackson said many of the firm’s colleagues had a personal connection to the cause, having seen family members or friends affected by dementia.

Registration is open online at www.alzheimers.gg or through Eventbrite.
