Written by keen local boulderer Steve Le Feuvre, the guide details lots of different locations for climbs around the island, as well as a small section on Herm.

‘I’ve been climbing for 23 years so it’s always been in the back of my mind as something I want to do,’ he said.

‘I’m hoping this can spur on an explosion in bouldering in Guernsey.’

Bouldering involves climbing up and over rocks or artificial rock walls at fairly low heights without using ropes and has developed into a popular style of rock climbing in its own right.

As well as locations to climb, and some stunning photography showcasing the dexterity and skills of the local bouldering community, the book also gives bit of information about Guernsey, safety information and advice on how to get started.

‘We want to lower the entry level for bouldering and show people how to get started,’ said Mr Le Feuvre.

He worked on the guide with publisher David Price, who has worked on many guide books in the past.

‘I love guide books and I have loved working with Steve,’ said the Bolton-based publisher.

‘The stuff in here is all new and has never been published before and we have some great contributors, maybe 50 or 60, and a lot of them are local.

‘I think this will really find some momentum here.’

Mr Price also involved Malc Baxter who has been illustrating climbing guide books for more than 60 years.

‘I really wanted to encourage pen and ink line drawings to illustrate the guide,’ said Mr Price.

‘This will be the last book Malc illustrates.’

The book is also translated in French.

‘It’s one of two guide books that is in two languages, there is one from Wales that is in English and French, so this is one of the two,’ said Mr Price.

‘We have it on sale with one of the biggest outdoor retailers in France Au Vieux Campeur.’

The guide book retails at £26.95 and will be on sale at the launch event at Up Climbing tonight as well as at Lexicon and several other retailers in the UK.

Places are still available for the free launch event tonight, but people are asked to book online at upclimbing.gg due to limited capacity.
