Those are the results of a snap survey of 849 local residents conducted by Island Global Research.
The precise results were 63% in favour of a local ban, with 30% against and 7% saying they didn’t know.
The polling organisation carried out similar surveys in Jersey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar.
The results for the other territories were roughly the same, although support for a ban was even higher in our sister isle, with 72% of respondents from Jersey saying they wanted young people banned from using social media platforms there.
The results varied among the various age groups of those surveyed, with only ‘Generation Z’ (people aged
16-24) showing a majority against extending the ban to Guernsey.
More women than men supported the idea, with 69% of females in favour compared to 54% of males.
There was also stronger support for a ban among parents compared to those without any children in their household.
The States has yet to discuss whether they want the proposed UK ban to be extended to the island.
