The Tour des Ports de la Manche, one of the biggest regattas in the French sailing calendar, will be racing into St Peter Port on Thursday.

Now in its 43rd year, the event has attracted its largest fleet of the decade, with more than 100 yachts and some 500 crew signed up to compete in the six-stage race around Normandy and the Channel Islands.

Boats are expected to begin arriving from 3pm, creating a spectacular sight in local waters and the visitor marina.

The fleet will remain in Guernsey overnight before departing for Dielette the following day.

As the French racing yachts sail from Guernsey, a fleet of classic yachts will begin a crossing from Dartmouth.

More than 80 yachts and hundreds of sailing enthusiasts taking part in the Classic Channel Regatta are expected to start arriving on Saturday morning.

Crews will be welcomed to the island with a reception at Castle Cornet and will stay overnight before setting sail for Lezardrieux the following day.

‘The arrival of these regattas is always a highlight of the summer season and we’re delighted to welcome so many visiting sailors to Guernsey Marinas,’ said Kieran Higgs, head of port operations.

‘Over 200 yachts are scheduled to arrive in Guernsey in the next week, creating an incredible sight in our waters and showcasing the island as a prime destination for marine tourism.’
