Coop Mobile only launched at the beginning of February, but has won the Sustainability Champion Award at the prestigious MVNOs World Awards in Amsterdam. The award recognises MVNOs and MNOs demonstrating exceptional commitment to sustainable practices, reduced environmental impact and industry-wide green initiatives.
The judges recognised Coop Mobile’s digital-first, values-led approach to mobile, which includes a fully online self-service model, SIM distribution through existing grocery and pharmacy locations, refurbished handset options, and SIM cards made from recycled plastic.
The model is designed to reduce emissions, minimise electronic waste and support responsible consumption, all aligned with the Channel Islands Coop’s core principles of ethical trading, fairness, community and sustainability.
‘Sustainability has been a core focus of Coop Mobile since inception and the model had to align with the Coop’s principles,’ said David McGrath, chief membership and marketing officer for the Channel Islands Coop.
‘The launch has been very successful and is delivering value for our customers and for the business. This award reflects our commitment to sustainable innovation, creating value for our members and delivering ethical products and services for our communities.’
The Coop said that more than a third of its mobile customers were now saving more than the cost of their mobile plan each month by saving on their groceries through their Coop membership.
