Applications are now open for the 2026 bursary, which has supported innovative health and social care projects in Guernsey for more than three decades, inviting health and social care professionals in both islands to submit ideas that could improve health, wellbeing and care within their communities.
For the first time, the bursary will be delivered in partnership with Health and Care Jersey, extending the programme’s reach and creating new opportunities for healthcare professionals across the Channel Islands to secure funding for projects that make a positive difference.
The winning project in each island will receive £3,000, with £1,500 awarded to the runner-up. Applications close on 21 September 2026.
Originally established in 1991 by Insurance Corporation, the Health & Social Care Bursary was created to help healthcare professionals turn innovative ideas into reality by providing financial support for projects that benefit local communities. Today, the programme continues under Intact Insurance, which remains committed to supporting the people and organisations that help island communities thrive.

Over the years, the bursary has funded a diverse range of initiatives, demonstrating that projects of all sizes and disciplines are encouraged to apply. Previous winning and shortlisted projects have included ADHD support resources, autism initiatives, cancer rehabilitation services, dementia care projects, communication tools for patients with speech and language difficulties, and specialist sensory environments for people living with dementia.
Last year’s winner came from Sara Hawker and the Guernsey Multi-Disciplinary Team Feeding Clinic, looking to enhance specialist support for children with complex feeding needs.
‘Many of the projects funded over the years have gone on to improve services, enhance the experiences of patients and families, and inspire new ways of working,’ said Dermot Mullin, director of operations at Health & Social Care.
Applications are open to health and social care professionals working across a broad range of disciplines. Projects can focus on patient care, community wellbeing, innovation, education, rehabilitation, prevention or service improvement, provided they demonstrate clear benefits for island communities.
