The Muratti-winning manager spent a three seasons with York City, the first in the Football League as the club was relegated.
‘That’s the reason why I’m there, I don’t know if a couple of seasons means they’ll class you as a legend, but I’ll take it,’ he said, speaking to Guernsey FC’s club media.
‘It’s a great privilege to be selected and recognised, and it’s going to be a good occasion I think.’
Merris will come up against some Leeds stars, mainly from the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as Irish defender Ian Harte, goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, Lee Trundle and former England international Carlton Palmer.
‘There are quite a few big names,’ he said.
The York City Legends v Leeds United Legends match kicks off at 2pm tomorrow at Tadcaster Albion. The two clubs are not particularly considered rivals despite their geographical locations just 50 miles away, with Leeds traditionally playing at a much higher level in the pyramid.
