Just an hour into the event more than 100 chalk drawings had already been started.
‘I’m very happy with how it’s gone so far,’ said organiser Ross Le Brun.
‘This ticks two boxes for me – it’s something I enjoy taking part in and I think it’s important to have something going on that doesn’t cost anything.’
Both children and adults enjoyed getting creative with chalk. Tim Le Prevost drew Buzz Lightyear, inspired by the recent release of Toy Story 5.
‘I saw the movie yesterday so thought this would be a cool one to do,’ he said.
‘I did this last year and occasionally do some chalk drawings on the patio.’
Drawings based on films were popular, with 13-year-old Brianna-Rose Krimelis basing hers on IT.
‘I have done the picture of Pennywise and Georgie off the cover of the film,’ she said. ‘I was looking at ideas of things to do and thought this was cool.’
Mum Trish Krimelis also gave chalk art ago.
‘The kids absolutely love it,’ she said.
Tilly Pattimore, 9, and sister Daisy, 11, drew their favourite Pokemon.
‘I’m doing Umbreon from evolution – one of my favourite Pokemon,’ said Tilly.
‘When we did this last year I did a sunset so thought it would be good to do something a bit different this year.’
Daisy decided to draw Espeon.
‘Espeon is my favourite of all time,’ she said.
‘I did a practice on paper at home so now I just need to copy that here.’
The Pattimore family decided to make a day of it by cycling down to the park and having some lunch before getting creative with chalk.
Football themed chalk creations were popular too. ‘Football mad’ Hudson Paul, 8, was inspired by this summer’s Fifa World Cup.
‘I did the World Cup because I really liked it, and because Spain won I decided to do the Spanish flag as well,’ he said.
