Simon Johns and James Coquelin had already raised close to £40,000 of their £60,000 target ahead of the MUG Monster Row, which is supporting cancer charity Male Uprising Guernsey.

They set off from Fort William just before 6am this morning, with an estimated 10 hours of continuous rowing and 29 locks standing between them and the finish line in Inverness.

The route also includes 13 stops where they will have to haul their boat out of the water and carry it round on foot before getting back in.

All the money raised will go towards the MUG nurses bursary to support the continuing education and professional development of local cancer nurses.

Praxis is supporting the challenge as headline sponsor, alongside Jon Ravenscroft, Ravenscroft Capital, Infinity Construction, Lince Salisbury, Upgrade Fitness, Healthspan, Clarity, Leapfrog Recruitment Consultants, Blue Cube Security Ltd, MooreMentum, Julius Baer, BDO, and Titan Wealth CI, who have all sponsored locks.
