‘It’s going really well. We’ve had loads of volunteers come in this morning who have fresh legs and arms, so that’s been really lovely,’ said show president Emma Sarre.
‘We’ve got loads of Scouts who have come up, some corporates, and three amazing volunteers from the West Show so far. It makes all the difference.’
The show’s lead sponsor Sarnian Roofing also provided a truck and driver to help move the heavier items.
‘Last year, we managed to get pretty much all of it down in one day. That’s very optimistic, but you never know, so that’s what we’re aiming for.’
The show itself was a huge success despite some rain on the first evening, said Mrs Sarre.
‘I think if you were making the decision on whether to come down on Wednesday or not, the rain was just at the wrong time.
‘But we had an excellent day yesterday. It was a really good evening.’
After a short break, the committee will begin preparations for next year’s show. ‘We’ll have a wash-up meeting fairly soon after where we’ll discuss what went right, what didn’t go right, and where we might need to make some changes. Then we’ll have a month or so off before getting back to it.
‘There are about 20 of us on the committee but these things run with such an extended family. There’s loads of volunteers which is great and it really helps having corporates come in as well.’
Though the hustle never quite stops for Mrs Sarre. ‘I’ve got a big, long list on my phone for next year’s show that I add to every time I see something that could be a good idea.’
The committee are already considering entertainment options for next year’s show, as, she said, major performers get booked up quickly.
