The Nao Victoria, a recreation of the 16th-century vessel that completed the first circumnavigation of the globe, docked in the harbour yesterday and is now welcoming visitors daily from 10am to 8pm.
The stop is one of the UK legs of the ship’s 2026 European tour, which is taking in more than 20 ports across the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.
The vessel now operates as a floating museum, and visitors will be able to climb aboard, explore its decks and go below into the hold to see how its young crew live as they continue to sail the world today.
The original Nao Victoria completed the first circumnavigation between 1519 and 1522. Captained by Ferdinand Magellan and, after his death, Juan Sebastian Elcano, it was the only ship of the expedition to make it home. The replica was built in Spain and completed its own circumnavigation between 2004 and 2006.
Special offer tickets are available online at ticket.fundacionnaovictoria.org, priced at £8 for adults and £4 for children aged five to 10, with a family ticket for two adults and up to three children priced at £20. Under-fives go free.
