The cadets were presented with their medals by the Lt-Governor, Lt General Sir Richard Cripwell, at an event attended by their families, fellow members of the youth organisations they represent, and senior island officials.
The new cadets are Hannah Falla of the St John Ambulance Cadets, Harry Blackwell from the Elizabeth College Combined Cadet Force, George Dyer of the Guernsey Scout Association Explorers, Emilie Waylen from the Guernsey Sea Cadets, Bella Hughes, a member of the 7th St Stephen’s Rangers, Girlguiding Guernsey, and Jane Van Der Watt from St Sampson’s High School.
‘The breadth and depth of commitment shown by applicants, across a variety of community and youth groups, has been very impressive, making this year’s selection process particularly difficult,’ said Sir Richard.
‘I look forward to working with the new Lt-Governor’s Cadets, and encourage those not selected to consider reapplying next year if they are able to.’
Each cadet receives a medal engraved with their name, struck locally by Bruce Russell & Son, which features a green ribbon and gold clasp.
Candidates are proposed by local youth organisations and schools, with names submitted to a selection panel that this year included Youth Commission chief executive Louise Leale and the Lt-Governor’s administrative secretary.
The cadets will support the Lt-Governor at official and public functions throughout the year.
