Deputy Le Brun said he was not claiming the service was in crisis, but ‘that people are starting to lose confidence in it.’
Stagecoach accepted it had encountered challenges in providing a complete timetable recently, but insisted problems could be resolved.
‘We recognise how important reliable bus services are, particularly for children travelling to and from school and for customers relying on bus travel to get to work and other essential commitments. We take reports of missed or delayed services seriously and are continuing to look into the issues raised,’ said a spokesman.
‘We have a good level of driver numbers on the island, although sickness has recently presented a challenge and, on some occasions, we have struggled to cover services as a result.
‘We are committed to providing a reliable and accessible service for our customers and will continue to review performance and take action where improvements are needed.’
Stagecoach said it would look closely at why passenger numbers fell in the first half of this year.
