Delegates from as far afield as Western Australia will be in the island for the Advanced Parliamentary Development Residency Course being held by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Guernsey is a member of the CPA and local branch secretary Simon Ross said it had approached the island to be the host for this event, which will be funded by the CPA itself with delegates paying their own way.
A total of 33 visiting delegates are expected and will be staying at the St Pierre Park Hotel for the week.
They have come from Punjab (Pakistan), Gauteng, Namibia, Kenya, Eswatini, Sark, Nova Scotia, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Isle of Man, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Western Australia, Zambia, St Lucia and Scotland.
Among their activities will be mentoring sessions from established parliamentarians, which will include former States deputy and chief minister Lyndon Trott.
They will also be attending a mock committee meeting, which will see other former States members Peter Ferbrache and Andrea Dudley-Owen joining in.
Taking part in the sessions themselves will be several sitting members, including Deputies Gavin St Pier, Sarah Hansmann Rouxel and Munazza Malik.
Mr Ross himself and the Bailiff, Jessica Roland, will be involved personally on Tuesday when a mock States debate will take place in which members will discuss the by-election policy letter from earlier this year.
A day trip to Sark on Thursday will see delegates given an overview of the island’s legislature and democratic arrangements and give them the chance to talk to members of Chief Pleas.
While in Sark they will also discuss how to use the media to get their message out into the community.
Other topics covered during the five-day event will include how to prepare good questions, scrutiny and oversight in committees, a speech and presentation masterclass and an in-depth analysis of the legislative process.
