In plans submitted for approval the club is offering two options, with the
screen either at the northern or southern end of the pitch.
It will be used to display scores of matches but, said Raiders’ vice-chairman Chris Gnapp, it will be for much more than that.
‘Our ambition at Guernsey Raiders is to make a match day about much more than 80 minutes of rugby,’ he said.
‘We want Footes Lane to be a place where the whole community can come together, enjoy the occasion and feel part of what is happening both on and off the pitch.’
The large screen would have a real impact on that experience, he said, enabling supporters to follow the score and key match information easily.
‘The screen would give us the opportunity to bring the day to life with club news, team announcements, event information and other content.
‘It would help create a bigger atmosphere and make match days and other events more engaging for families, young supporters and everyone visiting the ground.’
Mr Gnapp added that the screen would also provide a stronger platform for it to recognise businesses and sponsors as well as creating opportunities that could support the club’s future.
It was about more than just installing a new scoreboard, he said. ‘It is an opportunity to improve how people experience a day at the rugby club and to take another step towards our wider vision for Footes Lane as a welcoming, exciting venue for the island community.
‘We see this as the start of what the club and the venue can become, and an investment in creating occasions that people across Guernsey want to be part of.’
