Barney is the school’s therapy dog and headteacher Richard Fyfe and Barney joined pre-school and reception children for the reading of the book, which was written by reception teacher Lisa Du Port.
‘We like to bring together our early years children, and they love Barney,’ said Mrs Du Port.
‘I got inspiration from Julia Donaldson’s The Hospital Dog, and I had a bit of assistance from AI.
‘It was printed by Colour Monster and we have copies to go in the classrooms, and one for Mr Fyfe.’
The picture book based on Barney covers all the things that Barney could help the children with, whether that be to help them calm down, or if they are upset.
Barney was trained with Paws for Support. He comes into school to work with the children, and makes regular visits to classrooms.
‘What’s really nice is with a child who might be dysregulated, he instantly clams them down,’ said Mr Fyfe.
‘The children love him, and are happy to see him.’
Barney’s visit is part of a few days of activities before October half-term. From visits to L’Ancresse and the Little Chapel to woodwork and baking gache melee the children have a busy few days planned.
