The celebrations will run from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 December, with ticket prices kept low and several activities free.

‘For 50 years, Beau Sejour has been at the heart of the community. A place where islanders have learned to swim, played a whole range of sports, seen their first show or music concert, attended a charity event, celebrated together... along with so much more,’ said head of recreation services Sam Herridge.

‘Almost everyone in Guernsey has a Beau Sejour memory, and this milestone birthday celebration is our opportunity to say thank you.’

Things will kick off on the Thursday with a 70s disco in the Dave Ferguson Hall from 7pm to 11pm, a nod to the decade the centre first opened its doors. Tickets are £1, fancy dress is encouraged and a retro photo booth will capture the outfits.

On the Friday the pool will take on a Hawaiian theme for time trials on the inflatables, with children’s sessions from 4pm to 7pm and adults’ sessions from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are £1, and Coastal Connections will provide a DJ poolside and in the cafe, where food and drinks will be served.

The same evening, the Guernsey Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Club will perform excerpts from past shows on the concourse stage ahead of its own centenary next year.

Performances start at 6.30pm with Fiddler on the Roof, the first show ever staged at the centre, and props, costumes and memorabilia from previous productions will be on display.

On Saturday, free bouncy castle and go-kart sessions for children will fill the sports hall from 9am to 5pm, with face painting and stalls in the concourse. A quiet hour at 4pm is set aside for children who would benefit from a calmer environment, such as neurodivergent or autistic children.

King Rat and the Soul Cats will then headline the Big Anniversary Concert in the hall at 7.30pm.

On Sunday, there will be a Wild & Wacky Workout at 11am, with tickets at £1, and a second day of free bouncy sessions, again with a 4pm quiet hour. Vale Earth Fair, which is also 50 this year, will host local musicians, poets and artists on the concourse stage.

Tickets for all events are on sale now at guernseytickets.gg. Timings for the Vale Earth Fair programme are yet to be announced.
