Voting records brought back a difficult period in my life

I would like to thank the Press for publishing the annual voting records of deputies. The 2022 records brought back a particularly difficult period in my life and I wish to provide context for my four absences.

In October 2021, I was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer and underwent 18 months of intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy and a mastectomy. Despite the challenges and side effects, I continued to fulfil my duties, only stepping back when absolutely necessary – particularly to protect my immune system during the Covid pandemic and to recover from surgery.

Although I am now cancer-free, I still require ongoing treatment. My mother, former Deputy Gloria Dudley-Owen, also served while undergoing breast cancer treatment in 2011.

As a mother of three, I have had to prioritise my health, but my commitment to public service has never wavered. My work ethic remains strong and has been consistently recognised.

Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen
