The Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Awards on Saturday once again showcased our community at its absolute best.
It is always a feel-good event, featuring heart-warming moments and inspiring stories, as we celebrate the amazing achievements, selfless actions, hard work, kindness and bravery of our fellow islanders.
What better antidote to the doom and gloom which so often dominates the news agenda?
Every one of the finalists was a credit to Guernsey, including people who have saved lives, or made them easier, overcome challenges, faced tragedies, worked to enhance our island, or gone the extra mile to help patients, pupils or customers. Without exception, they are passionate about what they do. All their good deeds, large or small, help to make our island a better place to live.
These awards were created so that we, with the help of our generous sponsors, could offer some thanks and recognition where it is due to the Bailiwick’s many unsung heroes. It’s the kind of thing that local newspapers should be doing.
Everyone involved plays a part in helping to make the awards such a success and we are extremely grateful for their support. It was a truly humbling evening and all those who attended could not help but leave feeling proud of the Bailiwick, and its many remarkable residents.
