With a large number of the world's top 20 from countries not in the Commonwealth, the Sarnian squash star could even feature as an outside medal hope.

The 26-year-old is world number 22 in the latest PSA rankings list, but with only eight of those currently above him eligible for the Games, the main absentees being the eight Egyptians.

Also confirmed in Team Guernsey for the Games are four bowlers and three shooters, with some experienced names included.

Lucy Beere, Matt Le Ber, Garry Collins and Todd Priaulx are the four bowlers who will travel, while pistol shooter Tara Laine will join full-bore rifle competitors Peter Jory and Nick Mace.

It takes the size of Guernsey's team up to 18, with the likelihood of one further group of athletes being named next month and the final team size could be over 30.
