Merrien and Petit claim British pairs title
GUERNSEY'S achievements in qualifying for five out of 11 finals in the British Isles indoor bowls championships at the Stanley club in County Durham, and winning the women's pairs title, were tinged with disappointment yesterday.
But, although Sarnian bowlers suffered defeat in the finals of the men's senior singles, triples and junior singles, and in the women's singles, the over-riding emotion should be one of pride.
Celebrations were reserved for the Sarnian duo of Shirley Petit and Ali Merrien, who defeated Ireland's Wilma Adair and Marie McCord, 25-16, in the final of the women pairs yesterday morning.
With the consistent Petit giving Merrien good support at lead, there was always only one result possible, although the Irish duo put up spirited resistance.
