Cup success for Cubs and Colombians
A DRAMATIC Women's Knockout final went all the way to a penalty shootout on Saturday at Footes Lane, but the Men's Knockout showpiece was settled well within regulation time.
Clubhouse Cubs eventually came out on top in their encounter with ABN Amro Indies Ladies, despite trailing twice in normal time.
Liz Dudin gave Indies an early lead before Frankie Stewart equalised, but the oranges went into the half-time break 2-1 up after Sophie Torode finished off an excellent team goal in the 28th minute.
Cubs deservedly levelled things up in the second half thanks to Debbie Allen's goal and then their goalkeeper Ruth Hurst was the heroine in the shootout, saving two penalties as Cubs came through 3-1 winners.
In the men's final, an under-strength Indies were beaten 5-2 by Investec Colombians.
Zak Damarell, TJ Ozanne, Charlie Wilkes-Green and captain Matt Watson (two) scored the goals for the victors, while Josh Kendal and Dan Slimm replied for Indies.
There was some consolation for Indies on the day, though, as their men's second team won the Plate final 4-3 after extra-time against Willis Casuals Two.
