Belton decides to sit out Commonwealth opening ceremony
LUKE BELTON will skip tonight's opening ceremony to put up his feet hours before he makes his Commonwealth Games bow in the 200m breaststroke heats early tomorrow.
Team manager Alison Frankland has no issues at all with the breaststroke specialist's decision to miss the late evening party before royalty and revealed that three others would be escaping Celtic Park as soon as the parade of nations is over.
'I've left up to the individual,' said Frankland, who is well aware the damage that can be done by standing for a long period so close to competition.
It's understood that the whole Scottish swim team will also be making a quick escape, which is what Tom Hollingsworth, Miles Munro and James Jurkiewicz plan to do also.
All three, along with Belton, are in action on the first session of swimming at the impressive Tollcross Centre.
