Guernsey RFC 20, Amersham & Chiltern 18
GUERNSEY'S director of rugby was in no doubt as to what gave his side the vital edge over Amersham & Chiltern in a Saturday night thriller at Footes Lane.
'The difference between the sides tonight was our backline,' said Jordan Reynolds with a typical degree of certainty.
Reynolds had already acknowledged that the losing bonus point the visitors departed with was the least they deserved, but when it came to enthusing about the performances of those in green-and-white behind the scrum, he needed no second invitation.
'Our backline was outstanding today,' he said.
'We have been hinting at them playing well of late and it was dry today, which is what I have been waiting for to see how they would go in those conditions, and there was just so much pace on the ball.
'We always looked a threat.'
Layton Batiste, Matt Hema and Greg Smith all scored tries for Guernsey with their other five points coming from the boot of Glen Walters.
