GCB's Ben and Dec show accounts for the tourists

BEN FITCHET hit his first 'long game' century to mark a remarkable representative debut week, but he was not a star alone as the GCB XI defeated MCC for the second time in three days.

Fitchet stroked 114 but his efforts were nearly over-shadowed by a superb bowling performance from the young teenage leg-spinner, Declan Martel.

With the MCC, largely through a century by Hertfordshire all-rounder James Southgate, threatening to chase down the massive target of 330 set in 50 overs, Martel not only dismissed the visiting century-maker but ran through the tail to take six for 43.

Ultimately, despite a stubborn last-wicket stand, MCC were bowled out for 293 and it was another highly promising day for emerging young local talent.

Fitchet had previously scored two tons in evening cricket and fully justified his call-up with an innings of craft, patience and power.
