Merrien and Harvey progress in British Isles Championships
THERE were some outstanding moments at the Selwyn Samuel Indoor Bowls Centre in Llanelli yesterday as Alison Merrien cleared the first hurdle in her defence of the British women's singles title and Ben Harvey reached the final of the men's under 25 singles event.

There were also moments to forget as far as Guernsey's bowlers were concerned, with big defeats in the women's triples and men's senior fours, and a remarkable 39-4 reverse in the men's fours.
But, after Merrien overcame a feisty challenge from precocious Irish teenager Chloe Watson to win 21-12 and the 17-year-old Harvey had sneaked home, 21-20, against Irish prospect Scott Jess, it was time to concentrate on the positives.
