Mahy wins his first island title

STEVE MAHY has become Guernsey golf champion for the first time after beating Mick Marley in Sunday's final at L'Ancresse.

Four-time winner Marley started well and was two up early on in the morning round, but by lunch Mahy had turned things around and was 2 up through 18 holes.

Marley continued to fight hard, but the gap never closed to more than two in the afternoon and when Marley lost his ball in long rough on the left-hand side of the 14th fairway, Mahy had clinched a 6 & 4 victory.
