Husband-and-wife Ian and Alison are Guernsey’s representatives at the World Bowls Indoor Championship in Aberdeen and as well as their own singles campaigns, they will join forces in the mixed pairs.

‘After Guernsey hosted these championships 12 months ago, we know what is involved and appreciate Aberdeen taking on the host role,’ said Alison Merrien.

‘Ian and I are looking forward to competing in Scotland and playing singles and also mixed pairs together.

‘It is unfortunate that Jason Greenslade could not defend his title for Guernsey, but we will certainly do our best to bring back some silverware.’

A four-time winner of the women’s singles, Alison has been drawn in a group with players from Scotland, Cyprus, Malaysia, Macau, Hong Kong and South Africa.

Ian is up against opponents from Turkey, Canada, Sweden, Israel, Ireland, Isle of Man and the Norfolk Islands.

In the mixed, the Merriens are in section five alongside Norfolk Islands, Malta, Australia and two composite pairs comprising players of different nationalities.

The competition starts on Easter Sunday and goes on until Friday.
