CAMERON CHALMERS smashed his own island under-20 record, but just failed in his bid to reach the World Junior Athletics Championships 400m final last night.

The Guernsey athlete came third in semi-final three, clocking 46.51sec. to take 0.36sec. off his personal best, and was just 0.1sec. off a fastest loser spot for the final in Bydgoszcz, Poland, although his time was the eighth fastest overall across the semi-finals.
'I'm in the best shape of my life,' he said immediately after the race.
