Guernsey Raiders 60, Southend Saxons 14
STUNG by a half-time 'blast' from their coach, Raiders produced a stunning second-half display to hit the 60-point mark for the second time in their best ever season at National Three level.
By the time the final whistle went at Footes Lane Raiders had run in eight tries, seven of them converted by the immaculate fly-half Owen Thomas who also put over two penalties.
It was five-star stuff from Jordan Reynolds' men and through that ever-deeper, ever-bushier beard he wore a satisfied smile beyond the final whistle, his men having responded just as he had hoped when he tore into them at the break.
Although Raiders led 22-14 at the interval, Reynolds had not been happy with their performance and, at that stage, Saxons, looked well capable of coming from behind and completing the double over the Guernsey side.
But half-time changed all that.
'It was a really good second half from us, but the first half I was really disappointed and went in and gave them a blasting,' said the coach.
