While England’s open team placed third overall at the Padel Four Nations in Leeds, the Guernsey player barely put a foot wrong individually in winning all three of his matches.
He had partnered with Great Britain No 2 Sam Jones and another national top-10 player in Theo Garton to excel against the Scottish, Welsh and Irish opposition.
Scotland topped the open category and Wales also finished ahead of England, though only fine margins split them from the two teams ahead.
England were crowned overall champions of the event, which also had women competing and included over-40, over-50 and over-60 categories.
Cull had to be pleased with his individual performances as he aims to improve his British ranking beyond an already-impressive 14th.
‘It was one of those where we were probably favourites,’ he said.
‘The matches that we won were still good wins, but it’s one where I would have been more on the disappointed side had we lost them.
‘At the end of the day, a result is a result, right? I had to get the job done and it definitely gives me confidence.
‘Hopefully getting those wins puts me forward for some future events as well.’
Formerly a University of North Carolina scholarship player in tennis, Cull had made Guernsey padel history simply in qualifying to represent England at senior level. Other players that have represented the nation have been in age-group action.
Unsurprisingly, Cull, who is supported by Fort Group, SJ Builders and R3 Sport, had never experienced anything quite like it in his padel career.
‘It was a really cool experience,’ he added.
‘I did not expect to get picked and I went in trying not to think of it because I would have got a little bit nervous.
‘I went in relaxed and that helped.
‘I took it all in and the atmosphere was awesome – it’s not something I have experienced since my university tennis days.’
