LAYTON BATISTE was the last-gasp hero as he touched down to earn Raiders a dramatic and vital 22-16 win at title rivals Barnes in London on Saturday.

Five minutes from the end of a pulsating game, Barnes inched ahead with a long-distance penalty, but Jordan Reynolds’ side were not finished yet.

With the clock running out any mistake would have brought the game to an end and a Barnes win.

But the Raiders’ forwards and backs combined to produce more than 40 phases of play, while the home team tackled like men possessed to keep them out.

But finally Batiste, with a three-man overlap, drove his way over the line carrying three Barnes players with him.

Malcolm Barnes converted and Raiders were back up to second in the table.

Earlier, there were tries for Luke Sayer and either Lewis Hillier or Nick Merrien, who both claimed the score.

Sam Whitehead converted one try and tucked away one penalty.
