Hollingsworth makes semis; Tostevin PB
THE now Canada based Guernsey swimmer Tom Hollingsworth reached his second semi-final of the Gold Coast Games to experience another exhilarating evening session at the outdoor Optus Aquatic Centre.
During Saturday’s morning session the multiple Island Games gold medallist swum a time of 26.78sec. to qualify 10th fastest for the 50m backstroke semi-final.
Cheered by a number of Team Guernsey in the sell-out crowd, Hollingsworth, who lined up in lane two alongside Australian favourite Mitch Larkin, was unable to improve on his earlier time and finished 11th with a time of 27.08.
Both performances were short of his best, which is the Island record of 26.62 set in Budapest last August.
Jersey swimmer Harry Shalamon qualified fourth fastest for the final.
In the 100 freestyle, Miles Munro went in heat eight which also feature Aussie star Kyle Chambers.
Munro, whose island record stands at 49.65 set three years ago, clocked 50.80, failed to progress to the semis, but he still has today’s 50 freestyle to look forward to.
Tatiana Tostevin’s debut Games continues well with another personal best effort of 1-00.31 in the 100 freestyle.
It was enough to give her third place in heat two.
n Nikki Trebert was 16th in the 10m air pistol and failed to make the final.
Her best event is the 25m pistol which is staged tomorrow.
