But having again lost their boots, shooting as opposed to crampons, they have finally got there courtesy of a second-half goal from Muratti captain Jamie Dodd, which gave them a 1-0 win over bottom-side Rangers at St Andrew’s on Saturday.

Saints huffed and puffed all afternoon before Dodd sent over a cross with just 20 minutes left and the ball flew into the net.

Cue relief in the Saints camp, who were left biting their nails when Danny Hale failed to convert a penalty, and there was always the danger of Rangers causing a major shock for the second straight Saturday.

Up at St Peter’s, Belgraves drew level on points and ahead of Sylvans on goal difference courtesy of a 2-1 win over the home side who, from being title challengers a fortnight ago, are struggling to make the top three after three straight losses.

Alfie Le Page, the Bels coach, said it was a much needed win given his side have such a hard run-in.

‘I’m not over confident... we have still got to play Saints, North and Rovers yet.

‘Our game in hand on Sylvans is against Rangers next week, then we have got those others.

‘It is great to build some momentum but we still need to dig deep.’

Manzur remain in the mix for third after beating a struggling Alderney 5-1 at the Track.

The Ridunians were in it at 0-1 at the break and 1-2 after an hour, but then Manzur came alive.

‘We played well in the last half-an-hour,’ said Manzur coach Mark Romeril, who was happy to see Marlon Jardim score twice, as well as strikes from Matt Loaring, John Hunt and Kez Mahon.

North won their Grand Fort Road derby with Vale Rec 5-0.
