The initiative forms part of the Commission’s SportsMark quality assurance award and supports the overarching objectives of the Active 8 Plan for Sport.
‘We are going to be offering all our member sports who achieve SportsMark the opportunity to work with the Guernsey Press team to help publicise what the sport or club offers to members of the community of all ages and abilities,’ said communications director Nicky Will.
‘The Get Involved videos will give the community a taste of the sort of activities provided by our member sports and then link to a dedicated webpage where we can provide up to date information about sessions, age groups, volunteering opportunities and contact information.
‘The Guernsey Press’ sports content already has a strong following both on social media and in the daily newspaper so we feel by working together we can have the widest reach.
‘We really want to encourage as many people as possible to play and enjoy sport and we hope this will provide an easy way to find out more about individual pathways for all participation levels in all our member sports.
‘By linking this with our SportsMark accreditation, the community can feel reassured the sports and clubs featured are safe, with high standards of safeguarding and welfare, are well run and have appropriately qualified coaches.’

So far two videos for table tennis and boxing have been produced with more to come in the following weeks.
