Carns is the right fit for head coach role
GUERNSEY Netball’s search for its first funded head coach has come to a positive conclusion.
Sally Carns has taken up the role after impressing with a rich CV, which included winning the SportScotland community coach of the year award in 2016 and filling a regional partnerships manager role for England Netball.
She currently heads up the sport at Ipswich School and runs her own coaching business, Netball Daft.
Carns will be making trips over to help develop netball in the island, including helping re-establish competitive opportunities after the drought caused by Covid.
‘I am delighted to have been appointed as head coach for Guernsey and look forward to meeting players, coaches, volunteers and all of the netball community over the next few months,’ she said.
‘It’s an exciting time to be joining the existing team on the island and I hope I can bring my enthusiasm, energy, ideas and passion for netball to develop the performance aspect of Guernsey Netball.’
Her appointment comes as local netballers prepare for their first inter-insular since 2019, with the seniors’ return to UK league and tournament action potentially also on the horizon.
The Sports Commission’s Jeremy Frith, who doubles as Guernsey Netball Association performance director, welcomed the new appointment.
‘Sally is a well-respected sports professional with vast experience in netball both as an administrator, educator and as a coach,’ he said.
‘She is familiar with both participation and performance environments and has the experience of successfully filling key leadership roles within sporting organisations.
‘We felt her coaching philosophy was well-matched to Guernsey and where we are at this time.
‘We believe she will provide the leadership and direction that our senior and pathway teams require as we build towards what is undoubtedly an exciting time for Guernsey Netball.
‘We look forward to welcoming Sally to the team.’
